Visits

Visits count all visitors who arrive at your website and browse around to one or more pages. If you’re looking for a quick snapshot of the overall health of your site, the total number of visits is a good place to start because it represents the size of the audience that you are reaching.

A visit is defined as a series of page requests from the same uniquely identified visitor with a time of no more than 30 minutes between each page request.

In other words, a visit is a single browsing session. If a visitor views another page on your site within 30 minutes of the last page view, it is counted as the same visit. If a visitor returns to your site after 30 minutes have passed since the last page view, then it will be counted as a separate visit.

Page views

A page view is a visit to a page on your website. If the visitor reloads a page, this counts as an additional page view. If the user navigates to a different page and then returns to the original page, this will count as another page view.

Siteimprove defines a page view as a count of how many times a page has been viewed on a website or the chosen group within the chosen period of time. All page views are counted no matter how many times a user has visited the website in the chosen period of time.

More is better when it comes to page views. Generally speaking, you want each visitor to look at as many pages on your site as possible. Page views help indicate patterns of website traffic and most popular pages.
